Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) allows physicians to examine blood vessels from the inside out. It uses sound waves to check for constriction and obstructions that could affect blood flow. IVUS is a minimally invasive procedure that employs small equipment and cutting-edge technology to produce assessments that are less taxing on the body. Intravascular ultrasonography (IVUS) uses sound waves to assess soft tissue. Live images are captured by tiny devices inside your blood vessels. Intravascular ultrasonography is commonly used to evaluate coronary arteries and veins. It applies to other vascular exams as well.IVUS uses a narrow tube known as a catheter to access and evaluate blood vascular tissue. A medical practitioner creates an incision, typically in the groin, and inserts the catheter through to reach the evaluation zone.
